What’s Fair?

Share

Was the Federal Communication Commission’s “fairness doctrine,” which requires equal time for competing political candidates, really intended for San Diego school board elections? Your March 14 article, “School Board Race Scratches Padre Record,” provides an outstanding example of a horrendous misapplication of government regulation.

Mr. Steve Vaus is a concerned parent with young children in a school district in which he wished to become responsibly involved. He also happens to earn a living writing jingles. It is preposterous to believe that the so-called fairness doctrine could possibly apply in Mr. Vaus’ circumstances, particularly with waivers signed by his opponents.

KFMB and KCST would be much better served by concentrating on improving the quality of their programming rather than denying Mr. Vaus his right to make a living.
