A quarantine on parts of Mission Bay has been expanded because of a ruptured sewage line in Rose Creek, according to Mission Bay Harbor police.

It’s estimated that about 2 million to 3 million gallons a day of raw sewage has been flowing into the bay from the Rose Creek inlet. Harbor police said a larger portion of the bay, from the Crown Point area east to the Visitors Information Center and the Hilton Hotel, has been closed by county health officials.

Apparently, the sewage pipe had been broken for some time before work crews found the rupture and repaired it, police said.

Previous sewage spills have put other parts of Mission Bay off-limits to swimmers and boaters since Feb. 8.
