BIA Picks Roger M. Jaska as Its ‘Builder of the Year’

Roger M. Jaska was honored by the Building Industry Assn. of Southern California’s with the prestigious “Builder of the Year” award during its 19th annual convention in San Diego.

Jaska is president of Martin J. Jaska Inc. of Montclair, which has engaged in commercial and industrial construction throughout Southern California. The award is sponsored by the Southern California Gas Co.

Jaska is BIA state vice president and past president of its Baldy View chapter. He was founding president of the Baldy View Commercial, Industrial and Institutional Council, credited with being the driving force behind Ontario International Airport expansion.

He has been active in management-union negotiations for several years, and was vice chairman of the Southern California Multi-Employer Bargaining Committee. He is past president of the California Iron Workers Council, a panel member of the American Arbitration Assn. and a trustee for the Laborers’ Vacation Trust.

Jaska is also four-time winner of the Baldy View chapter’s “Builder of the Year” award.

Others honored at the convention were Mike Keston, who received the President’s Award; Devere Anderson, Achievement Award; Ernie Lavoie, Meritorious Award. Mel Wynn received the Past President’s Award; Gary Anderson, Specialty Contractors/Suppliers Award; Eric Shield, King Spike Award; Michele d’Arlin accepted the Council Memorial Award for the Home Building Council, and Cliff Dieterle, Chapter Memorial Award for Baldy View chapter.
