HOLT-GOODMAN TOURNAMENT
Hart 7, Birmingham 4--Tim Nedin capped a four-run fourth inning with a solo home run over the 390-foot sign to help lead the Indians over the Braves. Dean Fausett broke up a 3-2 game earlier in the fourth with a two-run single, then stole second and came around to score on a pair of groundouts before Nedin’s blast.
Hart’s Pat Spittler, in his first start, struck out two and walked two. Birmingham’s Alan Sedacca (2-1) had control problems throughout, walking eight and striking out four.
Hart broke out on top, 2-0, in the first on Gary Smith’s two-run double. Kevin Gelbard’s two-run double in the third got Birmingham even. Ernie Perez hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to close the scoring for Birmingham, which plays Cleveland at Granada Hills on Monday at 11 a.m. Hart advances to play Grant at CSUN on Monday at 2:30 p.m.
