Monterey Park : Housing Density Changed

Share

The Monterey Park City Council has approved a zoning change that will pave the way for construction of a senior citizen housing project at 1113-1117 Whitmore St., on the city’s border with Rosemead. The change will allow the Taiwanese-American Affiliated Committee, a private nonprofit agency that owns the land, to build up to 60 housing units per acre on the site, rather than the 25 permitted under present zoning regulations.

The developer originally had wanted to include a 53-space parking lot on a parcel in Rosemead adjacent to the senior citizens’ facility, but the Rosemead Planning Commission turned down that request because the site is zoned for single-family residential development. Parking facilities will now be constructed as part of the senior housing project on the Monterey Park side.
