Man Guilty of Kidnaping, Molesting Boy

Ex-convict David Collins was convicted in Providence, R.I., of one count of kidnaping and two counts of molesting Robert Smith, 14, of Long Beach. Collins, who already has served a dozen years in prison for forgery, bank fraud and auto theft, faces possible life imprisonment in sentencing scheduled for next week. The boy testified that Collins prevented him from contacting his parents and said he was molested by Collins “almost every day.” Collins said the boy, who disappeared from his Southland home nearly three years ago, accompanied him willingly.
