Execs at Tribune Entertainment are scurrying to find two critics to replace Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert when the two depart “At the Movies” in August (when their contract is up) for bigger bucks with Disney Domestic TV. They’ll be reconstituted at DDTV as “Siskel & Ebert & the Movies.”

Siskbert’s lawyers negotiated with Tribune for several months but it all died last week when they were unable to reach a final settlement over “money and guarantees,” said Joseph Antello, the show’s exec producer. Siskbert, who were making (reportedly) $125,000 each for “At the Movies,” also will develop special shows for Disney, according to studio pres Richard Frank.

As for conflicts of interest: Frank said the deal does not provide for Siskbert to produce movies. Nor will the dynamic duo be pressured to review Disney films.
