Construction is under way on a $10-million Jewish Community Campus on a 6.3-acre site near Shadow Ranch Park in Canoga Park. The 75,000-square-foot structure is a project of the Jewish Federation Council of Greater Los Angeles (JFC).

When it opens next February, the project, on Vanowen Street and Faust Avenue, will be the first in Los Angeles to house in one complex all the administrative and programming opportunities offered by the affiliated agencies represented by the JFC, according to Irwin Daniels, chairman of the building committee.

Designed by Abraham Shapiro AIA and Herbert Nadel AIA & Partners, the campus will consist of three interconnected buildings with landscaped courtyards. There is room for future expansion, Daniels added. Koll Construction Co.’s Los Angeles division is the general contractor.

The location of the campus, northwest of Warner Center, was selected to serve the growing number of younger Jewish families living in the west San Fernando Valley, Daniels said. “Of the 500,000 Jews in the Los Angeles area, 207,000 are in the San Fernando Valley, making the Valley itself the seventh largest population center of Jews in the United States,” he added.
