Bing Devine, a long-time sports executive who had been president of the St. Louis Cardinals football team since 1982, announced his resignation.
Devine, 70, who has also worked for the baseball Cardinals, was vice president, administration, for the football team from 1979 to 1981, interrupting that stint for a six-month period in early 1982 to serve as vice president of the Montreal Expos baseball team.
Before turning to football in 1979, Devine spent 21 years as a baseball executive.
