A man with broken ribs and seven sled dogs were airlifted from an expedition that is retracing Adm. Robert Peary’s route to the North Pole, a spokesman said in a telephone interview today.

The remaining team of 41 dogs and seven people will continue the trek to the North Pole by ski and sled. The team has 350 miles left of the 500-mile trip, which it hopes to finish by May 1. Expedition member Robert James McKerrow of New Zealand decided to leave with the dogs after a 1,000-pound sled fell on him and broke several of his ribs.
