After watching the strong winds from left field sweep across the diamond at Torrey Pines High School Friday afternoon, Oceanside baseball Coach Dave Barrett and his Pirates were convinced that their nonleague game against the Falcons would be a pitcher’s delight.

“When we saw the winds coming in, we were positive there wouldn’t be many hits,” Barrett said. “We didn’t think there would be a whole lot of runs, but we were wrong.”

Both teams overcame the winds, combining for 20 hits, as Oceanside edged Torrey Pines, 9-8, thanks to a five-run sixth-inning outburst by the Pirates.
