Stable Fire in Chile Kills 14 Racehorses

SANTIAGO, Chile —
Fourteen racehorses were burned to death overnight when fire swept through the stables of the Club Hipico, Santiago’s premier race track, club officials said today.
The horses’ trainer, Alfredo Bagu, said the rest of his 32 thoroughbreds managed to escape the flames, bolting into streets around the Hipico or being led to safety by stable hands. The cause of the fire was not established.
