DYLAN TOPS CONCERT LINEUP SIMPLE MINDS, FIRM, ALABAMA, SINATRA, LENNON ALSO ON TAP
The big news so far concerning the Orange County outdoor concert season is that the Bob Dylan-Tom Petty tour will make its only stop in the Los Angeles metropolitan area in June at the Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa.
The date of the show is expected to be announced at a press conference today in Los Angeles.
Beyond that show, the nearly 30 confirmed concerts at the Pacific and Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre contain few surprises. But the schedules are far from complete, and more than 60 additional shows are expected at the two facilities.
PACIFIC AMPHITHEATRE
The Pacific Amphitheatre’s season will open April 22 with Simple Minds and the Call. Alabama and the Charlie Daniels Band will appear on May 4, followed by the Firm on May 23 and Rush, which concludes its U.S. tour at the Pacific with concerts May 25-26. Tickets for these shows are already on sale.
Other acts on Pacific’s lineup include Kool & the Gang, June 20; Frank Sinatra, June 22; Bob Hope, July 6; Jeffrey Osborne, July 11; the Beach Boys, July 16: Dave Brubeck/Stan Getz/Dizzy Gillespie, Aug. 1; Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme, Aug. 16; the Moody Blues, Sept. 1; Julio Iglesias, Sept. 27; Mr. Mister, Oct. 3; Sandi Patti, Oct. 18. The Eurythmics and Culture Club are due in August and September respectively, but dates haven’t been confirmed.
Tickets for Kool & the Gang’s performance go on sale Monday. Pacific Amphitheatre General Manager Steve Redfearn said ticket information for shows not already on sale will be announced within the nexft month.
IRVINE MEADOWS
Irvine Meadows’ season got off to an early start with the March 22 Pat Benatar/Del-Lords show and will pick up again Saturday and Sunday with the Grateful Dead.
Steve Rennie, vice president of Avalon Attractions which books Irvine Meadows shows, said these acts also are scheduled to appear: Echo & the Bunnymen/the Church, April 19; the Violent Femmes/Phranc, April 27; Judas Priest, May 9; Heart, May 18; the Alarm/Long Ryders/T.S.O.L., May 31; Tangerine Dream, June 6; Siouxsie & the Banshees, June 14; Gallagher’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Party with Fishbone, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Blasters, June 28; Julian Lennon, July 25; James Brown, Aug. 1; Chick Corea, Sept. 13. Tickets for some of these shows are already on sale.
Tickets for the Alarm go on sale Sunday. Heart tickets will be available April 20 and Tangerine Dream’s show will go on sale April 27. Ticket sales for remaining shows will be announced in subsequent weeks.
