Surfer Breezes to Third Straight Win

Despite rainy, wind-swept conditions, David Eggers of San Diego won his third straight surfing contest in the California Amateur Grand Prix last weekend in Manhattan Beach.

After three weeks, Egger leads the circuit with 3,000 points, ahead of Colin Smith (2,805) of Cardiff, who placed second, and Chris Cottle (1,765) of Santa Monica, who was third. Other top finishers in the men’s open were Joey Jenkins of Malibu, fourth, and Christian Zingly of Playa del Rey and Trevor Christ of Encinitas, tied for fifth.

Scott Daley of Santa Monica won the men’s professional division to move up to eighth place in the overall standings with 1,485 points. Chris Adams leads with 1,900 points, though he was not among the top finishers at Manhattan Beach.

The top five included Jim Hogan of Capistrano Beach, second, followed by Kirk Wasson of Carlsbad, Nick Christensen of Playa del Rey and Tag Gasparian of Carlsbad.

Amber Scott won the women’s division, where the top South Bay finisher was Margie Phillips of Manhattan Beach in sixth place. Scott was followed by Letha Davis, Janice Aragon, Lisa Anderson and Cheryl Scott.
