El Monte : Scholarship Established

The Mountain View School District has established a scholarship fund for students planning a teaching career in memory of teacher Christa McAuliffe, who was killed Jan. 28 in the explosion of the space shuttle Challenger. Six other astronauts perished in the mission along with McAuliffe, who was the first civilian in space. The Board of Education for the El Monte district started the fund with a $100 donation. In addition to students, teacher aides in the district are eligible for the scholarship.
