Southeast Area : Vicencia Endorses Waters
Assemblyman Frank Vicencia (D-Bellflower) on Tuesday endorsed Ed Waters--the 30-year-old son of Assemblywoman Maxine Waters--in the June Democratic primary to succeed him.
Vicencia, who is retiring, said Waters--who worked in the Century Freeway housing relocation office--is in tune with issues of the district, which includes Compton, Lakewood, Bellflower, Paramount and part of eastern Long Beach.
“Crime is the big issue,” said Vicencia, who added that Waters “believes in the death penalty like I do and good strong law enforcement.”
Vicencia, a six-term legislator who serves as the Assembly’s presiding officer, said he supported Waters as a way of maintaining “harmony” within the Democratic caucus. Assembly Speaker Willie Brown (D-San Francisco) previously announced his support of Waters.
Vicencia said his letter of support for Waters will be mailed shortly to the district’s Democratic voters. There are eight other candidates in the Democratic primary.
