The State

A former San Francisco Fire Department inspector was indicted for allegedly taking kickbacks from a plumbing contractor he recommended to bring high-rise buildings up to code. Eugene Young, 60, of Daly City, was charged by a federal grand jury with conspiracy to defraud the United States, filing false income tax returns and income tax evasion. His son, Gregory Young, of Long Beach, was indicted on charges of aiding in the filing of false returns and conspiracy. The senior Young inspected high-rise buildings in the San Francisco financial district and allegedly received $140,000 over the past three years from the unidentified contractor he recommended to bring properties up to recently enacted state fire safety codes.
