An Indelible Sense of Loss With Cagney’s Death

Share

The passing of James Cagney has left an indelible sense of loss in the feelings and memories of not only the motion picture world, but the movie patrons who can recall Cagney’s wonderful contributions through his dramatic and song and dance achievements.

He entertained past generations with his so-called tough guy roles and then mellowed to offer us perhaps his greatest, surprising, brilliant, never-to-be-forgotten triumph as a song and dance man in “Yankee Doodle Dandy.”

His portrayal of George M. Cohan in that movie, with its patriotic and sentimental songs and vaudeville nostalgia, inspired many of us of past generations and recalled to mind what a wonderful era comprised the life and times of George M. Cohan.

The movie should be shown frequently to instill in the hearts and minds of present and future generations the same fervor of patriotism that George M. Cohan lived and expressed.
