School District Annexation Proposal

Share

Recently I received four separate correspondences from Troy High School regarding the reorganization and annexation of the Yorba Linda School District to the Placentia Unified School District.

Needless to say, I was appalled at the tremendous expense incurred by this mailing, which could better have been spent on the educational program in Fullerton. Further, I was outraged at the inaccuracies, innuendoes and blatant lies the letters contained.

The Yorba Linda School District would improve its situation financially by $191 per student, plus the benefit of 29 programs and services currently offered for kindergarten-through-eighth-grade children in Placentia that are not part of the regular program in Yorba Linda. Taxes would not be raised. A vote has been allowed. Open enrollment has been allowed. And no one from the Placentia Administration has ever mentioned Tuffree Junior High School as an alternative to Yorba Linda Middle School.

The Fullerton Union High School District apparently has plenty of money to waste on propaganda, lobbyists and lawyers. My concern is that many Yorba Linda citizens, especially those who may have been uninvolved or uninformed, might actually believe the drivel coming from the Fullerton district.

Please, people, get the facts before you make a decision. Senate Bill 2286 provides a fair solution to a problem that has existed in Yorba Linda for 24 years. Annexation to Placentia will provide much-needed additional funding and programs, eliminate “long-distance control,” and will once and for all unify Yorba Linda.

According to people responding to a poll taken by Assemblyman John Lewis, 92% of the people in Yorba Linda are in support of SB 2286. Why should Yorba Linda’s kindergarten-through-eighth-grade children be denied a better education by “big brother” Fullerton?
