Monterey Park : New Mayor Outlines Goals

Newly installed Monterey Park Mayor G. Monty Manibog said the city's tasks in the coming year will include finding ways to relieve traffic congestion, ensuring high quality development, attracting new businesses and coping with reduced federal funding.

Manibog took office Tuesday in a ceremony that attracted an overflow crowd to the City Council chambers and included congratulatory remarks by Lt. Gov. Leo McCarthy. Cam Briglio was installed as mayor pro tem and will become mayor in about nine months, under a system that rotates the office among council members according to seniority and the number of votes received in the council election. Of the three new council members who were seated Tuesday night, the first to serve as mayor will be Chris Houseman, followed by Barry L. Hatch and Pat Reichenberger.
