The NCAA Council has referred the question of UCLA All-American shotputter John Frazier’s eligibility to the NCAA Executive Committee, which will meet next week.

Pending a decision by the NCAA, Frazier, a senior, will be held out of competition for the third straight week Saturday, when UCLA meets Houston and TCU at Drake Stadium.

During his redshirt year in 1984, Frazier competed as an independent in UCLA meets. That is in violation of an NCAA rule, but there is a question about whether Frazier should be penalized because UCLA coaches relied on a previous interpretation of the rule when they allowed him to compete in 1984.
