Los Alamitos : Man Injured in Fall Beneath Skiploader
A Los Alamitos man was critically injured shortly before noon Saturday when he fell under a skiploader he was operating at the rear of his property.
The man was freed by Orange County Fire Department personnel using a heavy-rescue hydraulic jack.
Police Sgt. Duane Swearingen said the victim was John R. Cafarelli, 38, of 4321 Farquhar Ave. He was airlifted by helicopter to Memorial Medical Center of Long Beach, where his condition was described as critical.
A hospital spokesman said Cafarelli suffered abdominal and chest injuries and a broken pelvis.
Swearingen said that the accident happened as Cafarelli was using the bucket on the skiploader to try to lift a truck.
“As he was lifting the side of the truck, the skiploader jerked, causing Cafarelli to fall under it (the skiploader),” Swearingen said.
