Stanford Defeats No. 1 USC in Women’s Tennis

Stanford, ranked No. 2 in the country, won four of six singles matches and defeated No. 1-ranked USC, 5-4, in a Pacific West women’s tennis match Saturday at Stanford.

The Cardinal (5-1 in the conference and 16-1 overall) clinched the victory when Stephanie Savides and Cari Hagey defeated Heliane Steden and Mary Norwood, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, in the No. 2 doubles match. The loss left the Trojans at 5-1 in league play and 16-2 overall.

USC’s Caroline Kuhlman, ranked No. 1 in singles in the nation, defeated Patty Fendick, 6-2, 7-6, in the feature singles match.
