College Student Held in Slaying of Woman
An El Camino College student from Hawthorne has been arrested in the slaying of a campus acquaintance whose battered body was found last week in South Los Angeles, Los Angeles police said Tuesday.
Wyatt McMillan, 21, was booked on suspicion of murder in the death of Loretta Jones, 22, whose partially clad body was found April 15 in an alley near 97th Street and Broadway.
Investigators allege that McMillan asked the woman for a ride to school and then tried to rape her. “The motive was sex,” Detective Dennis Payne said.
Jones’ death was investigated for links to a serial killer believed to have slain 16 prostitutes in the South Los Angeles area, but a connection was quickly discounted.
