A total of 221 House members and 63 senators have co-sponsored resolutions opposing the sale of 2,600 Sidewinder, Stinger and Harpoon missiles. Advocates say the sale is vital to protect U.S. interests in the Persian Gulf. But foes, led by California Rep. Mel Levine (D-Santa Monica), say the Saudis have shown little interest in the Mideast peace process.
