Show on Job Openings

Job seekers will be able to see and hear potential employers describe openings at their companies in a 30-minute talk-show format television program scheduled for Sunday, May 11, at 10 p.m. on KHJ-Channel 9 in Los Angeles.

VideoSearch, a Santa Ana recruiting services company, produced two “Meet Your Next Employer” programs late last year that were broadcast over UHF stations in Anaheim and West Los Angeles. Best Products Co., GTE Directories Corp. and ADIA Personnel Services will sponsor the May 11 broadcast and discuss professional-level job openings at their companies.

Depending on the length of the segment, the companies will pay from $3,000 to $5,000, Katz said. Each segment will be from four to eight minutes in length and there will be no commercials.

In previous shows, Cindy Subby, previously a television show host in Minneapolis, discoursed with her “guests” about the opportunities, benefits and candidate qualifications at their particular company. VideoSearch plans to follow a similar format at KHJ. A second “Meet Your Next Employer” is scheduled for the same time slot on May 18 and if successful, the program could be extended, KHJ said. “We’ll see what happens to the first two,” said Walt Baker, vice president of programming at the station. First Interstate Bancorp and Southern California Edison Co. are scheduled to appear on the second show.

Richard Katz, VideoSearch president, started his company five years ago as a provider of video resumes but “woke up one day and realized we could reverse the process.”

Don French, regional personnel manager for Xerox Corp. in Irvine, said he was “amazed” at the number of applicants his company’s presentation drew last year and how closely their qualifications matched those sought by the company.
