Defensive back Darrell Green of the Washington Redskins defeated wide receiver Willie Gault of the Chicago Bears by two feet in the final to win the Sprint/NFL’s Fastest Man contest at Palm Desert.
The Rams’ Ron Brown, an Olympic relay gold medalist in 1984, lost to Green by two yards in the semifinal after beating the Minnesota Vikings’ Anthony Carter in the first round.
Eight NFL players competed at 60 yards on grass. Green won $20,000, while Gault received $15,000.
