A father who feared that his mentally ill daughter would be forced into an institution apparently killed her then committed suicide in their Burbank home, police said Wednesday.

A housekeeper discovered the bodies of Debs Packer, 79, and his daughter, Emily, 53, about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in a house on the 500 block of East Tujunga Avenue, authorities said. The two had last been seen alive about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Burbank Police Lt. Larry Koch said.

Both died from overdoses of medication, Koch said.

A suicide note, apparently left by Debs Packer, said the father feared that another family member was trying to have his daughter committed to an institution, Koch said. The note also said that the father was upset at having to move because the house was scheduled to be torn down for new construction, Koch said.
