College Tennis : Man Son Hing Upset Winner, but UCI Falls

UC Irvine senior Bruce Man Son Hing upset UCLA’s Brad Pearce, 6-4, 7-6, but the second-ranked Bruins scored a 7-2 win over the Anteaters in a nonconference tennis match Wednesday at UCLA.

Man Son Hing’s upset of the nation’s second-ranked singles player was his third win of the season over a player ranked in the national top 10. UCI concluded its dual match schedule with a 18-12 record and opens the Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. championships Friday at San Jose State.

Chapman 5, Cal State Northridge 1--The Panthers (11-1, 20-10) clinched a tie for the conference title with the win at Chapman. Olivier Amerlinck, a freshman from Belgium, won at No. 3 singles to improve his record to 29-6 and move within one win of establishing a school record for singles victories in a season.
