Top Seeded Hogan Advances in Racquetball
No. 1 seed Marty Hogan of San Diego defeated Steve Lerner of Riverside, 11-2, 4-11, 9-11, 11-7, 11-4 Thursday in second-round play of the Ektelon National Racquetball Championships at the Sports Gallery in Anaheim.
The defending national champion, Cliff Swain of Braintree, Mass., defeated Scott Oliver of Stockton, 11-3, 11-6, 11-4. Mike Yellen of Southfield, Mich., the 1983, ’84 and ’85 national champion, defeated Jerry Hilecher of St. Louis, 11-4, 11-6, 11-10.
In the women’s competition, No. 1 Lynn Adams of Costa Mesa defeated Laura Martino of El Paso, 21-15, 21-12, 21-8. No. 2 Caryn McKinney of Atlanta defeated Linda Porter of Dallas, 21-8, 21-9, 21-15.
The third round of play runs from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today. The semifinals will be held Saturday from noon to 4:30 p.m. The finals will be held Sunday at 2 p.m.
