I’ll be the first to step forward in support for demolition of the old library building. The place has simply outlived its usefulness as a suitable center for the library system.

The preservationists can turn it into a shrine to architecture if they want, but the people of Los Angeles deserve a new library.

According to The Times’ article (April 30), our city fathers have been promising one for 20 years! Just think, a generation grew up without the educational benefits of a modern facility.
