Neurosurgeon Milton Avol, a convicted slumlord who was sentenced to live in one of his own buildings for 30 days, acknowledged in Los Angeles Municipal Court that city inspectors found numerous code violations in three other properties he owns, including broken windows, vermin and rodent infestation, cracked and peeling paint and accumulations of trash and debris. Avol, 61, who faces 10 months in jail for violating terms of his September, 1983, probation, asked Judge Veronica Simmons McBeth for an opportunity to show why he should be treated leniently in connection with the admitted violations at 1821 and 1839 S. Main St. and 1660 N. Western Ave. Deputy City Atty. Stephanie Sautner said, however, that she will seek some jail time for Avol, a Beverly Hills resident. “We would also like to see him out of the (housing) business,” she added. McBeth set a hearing for July 18.
