Manhattan Beach : Commission Expansion

Share

The City Council has introduced an ordinance to increase the Planning Commission to seven members from five.

The proposal, which needs final approval at the council’s meeting May 20, was suggested last month by Councilwoman Jan Dennis, who served on the commission before being elected to the council in 1984. At that time the commission had seven members, Dennis said. It was later reduced to five by the council.

“The more people you have--and seven worked well--you’re going to get some new and fresh ideas,” Dennis explained at Tuesday’s council meeting. “I think it gives you more of an idea of what folks in the city are trying to say.”

Commission members are appointed to four-year terms by the council. The two new positions would also be filled by the council.
