La Verne : Fire Truck to Serve Hills

Share

As an alternative to building a fire station in the northern part of La Verne, the City Council has voted unanimously to purchase a high-powered fire engine that will reach homes in the hills.

Developers of housing projects will reimburse the city for the $165,000 fire engine, and the council has the option of reconsidering construction of a third fire station in the future. The new engine will replace a 1965 fire truck at Station No. 2 at Wheeler Avenue and Ruggles Street.

“The smaller fire truck will have the capability to travel faster and reach up the hill quickly enough,” Assistant City Manager Martin Lomeli said. City policy states that a fire rig should be able to reach any home in La Verne within five minutes.
