Covina : New Renovation Deadline

Share

The deadline for businesses on the east side of Glendora Avenue to voluntarily upgrade their exteriors has been extended to Oct. 25 by the Community Redevelopment Agency. Chet Yoshizaki, Covina redevelopment manager, said the original six-month period for voluntary renovation ended in late April, but the redevelopment agency extended the time because it is likely that at least 50% of the businesses will upgrade their exteriors in the coming months. If the 50% goal is not reached, Yoshizaki said, the city will begin exploring ways to enforce the renovation requirement.

Suggested improvements include installation of new signs and modification of canopies and parapets so they are uniform along the avenue. The redevelopment agency has allocated $160,000 to subsidize some of the costs, and businesses can apply for grants. Yoshizaki said the intent of the revitalization effort is to increase pedestrian traffic along Glendora Avenue.
