Eight sailors suffered injuries battling an engine room fire that broke out on the tank landing ship Schenectady while it was at sea. The warship was involved in amphibious maneuvers off the Southern California coast at the time of the blaze. It returned to San Diego under reduced power, Navy spokeswoman Lt. Cmdr. Connie Haney said. Injured crew members were taken to Balboa Naval Hospital.
