Bonita Coleman Married to Bishop

The Rt. Rev. H. Hartford Brookins, 91st Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, married Miss Bonita Coleman, a Los Angeles businesswoman, in Little Rock, Ark., where Bishop Brookins serves as the presiding prelate of Arkansas and Oklahoma. He was attended by the Rev. Dr. Jesse L. Jackson, as best man.

The bride, daughter of Mrs. George Reyer and a graduate of Cal State Fullerton, is vice president of finance for P. T. Enterprises, Hollywood. She is a member of the NAACP and the National Assn. of Black Journalists and participated in steering and fund-raising committees in political campaigns of Tom Bradley and Jesse Jackson; she also won the NAACP Image Award in 1984 for her work as associate producer on “One More Hurdle: The Donna Cheek Story.”

Bishop Brookins has long been associated with the civil rights movement and with economic development for blacks. He and Mrs. Brookins will maintain a home in Bel-Air and one in Little Rock, where he will serve as bishop of the 12th Episcopal District of the AME Church and she will be Episcopal supervisor of the Women’s Missionary Society.
