Blustery winds are expected to diminish and temperatures should rise slightly this weekend as a low-pressure system over San Diego County continues to weaken.

The Mother’s Day weekend should be pleasantly warm and sunny with light winds and near-seasonal temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.

“We have had a very strong low-pressure system this week that dropped temperatures and brought winds and some sprinkles,” forecaster Wilbur Shigehara said. But the system should begin dissipating today, and cooler northerly winds are expected to shift to the west by Saturday.

“Winds will drop off, temperatures will warm up slowly and we will have a fair-weather pattern,” Shigehara said.

May’s typical night and morning low clouds are expected along the coast, but afternoons should be sunny and clear. Light winds will keep temperatures in the 60s at the beach, where the ocean temperature hovers at about 62 degrees.

Sea breezes are expected to be 10 to 16 m.p.h., and the surf should be three to four feet.

Temperatures along the coast should reach 72 degrees today and Saturday, with lows in the 49- to 55-degree range. Inland valley highs in the 70s might drop to the 40s at night. Temperatures in all areas should warm slightly on Sunday.

Mountain highs of 55 to 63 degrees are expected to fall into the 30s at night. Desert highs of 90 will drop to the 50s at night.
