Ex-Titan Baker Signs With Patriots
Former Cal State Fullerton offensive lineman Larry Baker was among seven players signed to contracts by the New England Patriots at the conclusion of a free agent invitational camp Saturday in Sullivan Stadium in Foxboro, Mass.
The 23-year-old Placentia resident, a 1980 graduate of El Dorado High School, was among 225 players in camp. Baker, a 6-foot 4-inch, 275-pound offensive guard and tackle, played for the Titans between 1980 and 1984.
He was selected to the All-Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. first team as a junior offensive guard in 1983 and was a second-team all-conference selection in 1981 as a sophomore tackle. He missed the 1982 season to rehabilitate an injured shoulder.
Among those who failed to get an offer after the Patriot tryouts was linebacker Darryl Perry of Gardner-Webb College, brother of William “The Refrigerator” Perry.
Baker and the six other new signees will attend a rookie mini-camp starting Thursday.
