A disbarred Spring Valley attorney was sentenced Tuesday to four years in federal prison for being an accessory after the fact to a cocaine conspiracy led by one of his clients.

Frank Prantil, 48, is already serving a two-year state prison term for a 1983 conviction for forgery. The sentence from U.S. District Judge Gordon Thompson is partially concurrent with that term.

Prantil’s attorney, Eugene Iredale, said Prantil will have to serve two more years beyond his original two-year state term.

Prantil, a prominent criminal defense attorney, ran an unsuccessful campaign for a judgeship in El Cajon Municipal Court and for San Diego County district attorney in the 1970s.

He pleaded guilty in March to charges that he aided his former client, Ronald Powell, 40, of El Cajon, while Powell was a fugitive in a cocaine distribution conspiracy case.
