A wheelchair-bound, 67-year-old Pacific Beach woman was sentenced Wednesday to 25 years to life in state prison for arranging the murder of her husband.

Dorothy Osborne was given the term by San Diego Superior Court Judge Kenneth Johns for her Dec. 16 first-degree murder conviction by a jury.

Osborne was convicted of hiring two men to kill her husband, John Osborne, 62, to whom she had been married for 40 years.

Deputy Dist. Atty. Bill Collins said Osborne blamed her husband for her leg being amputated in 1960 after an accident because he had signed hospital papers authorizing the amputation even though the couple were separated at the time.

John Osborne was found strangled May 19, 1984, in the couple’s condominium on Diamond Street.

A separate trial was held for Ziyad Muhammed, 36, who was identified in testimony as the principal attacker, but a jury acquitted him in February, 1985.

The second man involved, Clyde Shelton, 42, testified against Muhammed and Osborne and received a two-year sentence after he pleaded guilty to assault with a deadly weapon.
