Santa Monica : Social Service Funds Retained

Share

Social service programs for the homeless and others are retained in the proposed 1986-87 Santa Monica city budget, despite an anticipated $1-million cutback in federal revenues that have traditionally gone to those services.

City Manager John Jalili said the city can continue to fund social service programs by dipping into its reserves. He called the reserve-fund plan a “one-time gesture” and said a tax increase will be considered for the following year. The $121-million budget plan released this week contains no major tax or fee increases. The City Council must approve a budget by July 1.
