County Obtains Report on Landslide
Los Angeles County has obtained by subpoena a copy of a report on the Big Rock Mesa landslide. The county had commissioned the report by Laguna Hills geologist Dennis Evans, but Evans withheld the seven-volume document, dated March 15, 1986, because of a dispute over the amount of money he was owed.
Two attorneys representing more than 200 Big Rock families subpoenaed the report last month. Several homeowners had partial copies and The Times printed the report’s conclusion that the slide, which damaged Big Rock homes in 1983, is still moving in some areas, placing 90 homes and businesses “at risk.”
The county received the report Monday after issuing a subpoena to Richard D. Norton, one of the lawyers possessing a copy. The payment argument has not been settled.
Roslyn Robson, a spokeswoman for the county Department of Public Works, said the county will decide what to do about the landslide after reviewing the document.
