FYI : Running Wild
California is home to one of only about seven of the world’s wild-horse populations. At the Wild Mustang Ecology Symposium, on May 31, 20 of the nation’s experts will discuss population control, social behavior and government management. Sponsored by UC Davis, it will be held at the Bishop Civic Center, Bishop, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The fee is $60.
The next day, Prof. John Turner of Ohio Medical College, who studies wild-mustang reproduction, will lead the Wild Mustang Ecology Field Program into the high desert rangeland northeast of Bishop. Participants will track and study the wild horse on horseback, leaving on June 1 at 7 a.m. and returning on June 4 at 5 p.m.; $395 includes the symposium.
