Service Held for Harry Mock Jr., Santa Monica Superior Court Judge
A funeral services was held Friday for Santa Monica Superior Court Judge Harry Mock Jr.
Mock, 53, who died of a heart attack May 9, was elevated to the Superior Court bench in 1982 by Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr., after two years as a Municipal Court judge in West Los Angeles.
Before his appointment to the bench, Mock was in private law practice for 18 years with the law firms of Sklar & Mock and Mock & Tan, specializing in personal injury and medical negligence matters.
A resident of Los Angeles, he was a member of the Southern California Chinese Lawyers Assn., the Minority Bar Assn., the Asian American Bar Assn., the American Trial Lawyers Assn. and the California Trial Lawyers Assn.
The son of Chinese immigrants, Mock was born in Memphis, Tenn., and was a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, and the Hastings College of Law. He also studied forensic medicine for two years.
He was active in the Chinese community and helped found the Chinatown Service Center, which gives free legal advice and referrals to the Asian community.
Mock is survived by his wife, Dr. Elizabeth J. Lu.
A scholarship fund in Mock’s name will be administered by his former law partner, Bill Tan, at 711 W. College St., Suite 610, Los Angeles 90012.
