The FBI compiled reports on the private life of actor Rock Hudson in the 1960s because of a rumor that he might portray a federal agent in films, according to a report published in the Dallas Times-Herald. Information released to the newspaper under the Freedom of Information Act indicated that the investigation of Hudson, who died last October after a yearlong battle against acquired immune deficiency syndrome, was dropped when it was discovered that he was to portray a police officer, rather than an FBI man. Another investigation of Hudson’s private affairs was undertaken five years later, however, at the request of a personal secretary to then-President Lyndon B. Johnson, the report revealed.
