A 96-year-old Modesto man will be allowed to stay at a nursing home, rather than face criminal proceedings in the slaying of his best friend, an 81-year-old neighbor. Modesto Superior Court Judge Norman Reid decided to keep Samuel Sadler where he is, rather than commit him to a psychiatric hospital or allow outpatient treatment. Sadler has been placed at Las Palmas Estates in Turlock, where the staff is experienced in treating patients with mental disorders, Deputy Dist. Atty. Ernie Spokes said.
