A commercial airliner carrying 10 professional golfers and officials bound for the Memorial Golf tournament in Ohio was forced to circle Port Columbus International Airport while the landing gear was released manually.

Tom Place, one of the passengers, said the captain of the American Airlines 727 jet told the 128 passengers--including Byron Nelson, Keith Fergus, Mike Sullivan, Gary Koch, Mac O’Grady and Tom Sieckmann--that the plane was having problems with its hydraulic system. The plane circled about 30 minutes at mid-day Monday while the gear was cranked down by hand.
