After 41 years as a teacher and an administrator in the Inglewood Unified School District, Lois T. Stegen is retiring. Stegen, who has been principal of Inglewood Adult School since 1977, previously taught at Morningside High and Inglewood High and was assistant principal of the adult school.

Edwin Caine has been honored as Physician of the Year by the medical staff of Del Amo Hospital in Torrance. Caine, a child and adolescent psychiatrist at Del Amo, served his internship and residency at Harbor/UCLA Medical Center after graduating from the University of Miami, Fla.

Sister Mary Milligan has been appointed provost of Loyola Marymount University. As provost, Milligan will assist the university president in short- and long-range planning and campus development.

Lisa Marie Adams of Palos Verdes Estates has been crowned Miss South Bay. Adams will represent the South Bay in the 1987 Miss California pageant. The members of the court are Karla Jackson of Palos Verdes Estates, Pauline Munoz of San Pedro, Andrea Johnston of Torrance and Elisabeth Pohle of Manhattan Beach.

The Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce gave its highest honor, the Ruth Gross Award, to Pamela Mitchell of Torrance High for her service to the community and her school.

A special award was given to F. Vance Neill of Calle Mayor School. Neill, 13, makes marionettes to entertain at convalescent homes in the South Bay area.

Other awards were given to Mydung Nguyen, North High; Melissa Campbell, Torrance High; Craig Carlson, West High, and Theresa Mitchell, Madrona Middle School.
