Norwalk : Crash Kills Bell Officer
An off-duty Bell police officer was killed Tuesday in a single-car crash on the Santa Ana Freeway in Norwalk.
Thomas L. Casares, 24, of Garden Grove was northbound on the freeway when his car, on a curve near Norwalk Boulevard, struck down a guardrail and skidded down a 15-foot embankment, said Lyle Whitten, a California Highway Patrol spokesman.
Casares, who suffered massive head and chest injuries, apparently died at the scene, Whitten said.
Casares had been a Bell police officer since 1984.
